Install An Elfa Closet

A well-organized Elfa closet can help make your home run smoothly.

Elfa closet organizer systems are among the most creative and attractive commercial products marketed to help consumers effectively organize a closet. One of the best features of Elfa closet systems is the relative customizability of their arrangement, giving owners the right amounts of each type of storage required. Plan out the arrangement of the units prior to installation to save time and prevent installation headaches. The basic installation of these units requires only some preparation, basic materials and minimal home repair experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the dimensions of the cleared closet space and draw them out to scale on a blank piece of paper. Arrange the various closet storage units that you have purchased or intend to purchase within the space, drawing each of them to scale as well, remembering that detail is less important than accurate representation of distance.

2. Arrange the physical pieces of the closet within the closet space to make sure that the plan will work with the actual pieces. Remove the pieces of the unit and set them aside.

3. Use the stud finder to mark the locations of the studs within the walls of the closet, marking each edge of the stud for extra clarity during the installation process.

4. Set the installation brackets against the studs vertically according to the amount and location of support the various units of your closet require, making sure that the installation brackets are set at the same level so the closet units are level.

5. Mark the installation holes of the brackets against the wall, making sure that these holes line up with the marked locations of the studs. Remove the brackets.

6. Drill holes in each marking, making sure that the drill bit encounters a stud with each hole. Replace the brackets in position. Set 3-inch wood screws in each hole and tighten them firmly to attach the brackets to the wall.

7. Position the various elements of the closet unit on the brackets, hanging them according to their type and installation method. Set the carpenter's level on each portion of the closet organizer and make any adjustments necessary to ensure that the units are level.
