Organizing Space
1. Draw a circle in the center of a sheet of paper. Label the circle with the name of a room or area you want to organize, such as the kitchen, a junk drawer, garage or bedroom closet.
2. Draw at least eight boxes, from top to bottom, on the left side of the circle. Connect each box to the center circle with a line. Write eight different ways you are using the given space in each box, such as for parking the car, storing seasonal clothes or holding exercise equipment.
3. Draw another eight boxes on the right side of the circle. Connect each box to the center circle with a line. Write eight new ways to use this room or space better. For example, if you have piles of books in your closet, you might rather use that space to keep clothes organized.
4. Compare the similarities and differences between the boxes on each side of the graphic organizer to determine if you are using this room or space in the most efficient way.
5. Apply the compare/contrast graphic organizer to every room or space to determine that room's purpose and help you figure out how it should be organized.
Organizing Time
6. Draw a circle at the top of a sheet of paper. Label it with today's date.
7. Draw three circles in the middle of the paper and connect them to the top circle with lines. Label the circles "Morning," "Afternoon" and "Night."
8. List every single thing you do that morning, afternoon and night, including activities like cooking, cleaning, sleep, watching television, checking email and showering. Draw a circle around each activity and connect it with a line to the corresponding time of day.
9. Use the network tree graphic organizer every day for a week to analyze how you spend your time. Highlight any activities that waste time or serve no purpose. Determine what time of day you are the most productive and the least productive.
10. Create a schedule that enables you to organize your time more wisely. Schedule the difficult or mundane tasks during the time of day you feel most productive. Block time for leisure activities too.
