Incorporate storage into your baby's nursery to avoid unnecessary clutter.
Storage is essential in your baby's nursery as all those little baby items can pile up. Implementing storage does not have to take away from the design or decor of the nursery. Choose the amount of storage that's right for the size and design of the nursery. Does this Spark an idea?
Closet
Your baby's closet is one of the prime areas in the room where you can store a lot of baby items without taking up any floorspace. Because her clothes are so tiny, invest in a second hanging rod, and line the floor with shelves, drawers or bins to hold extra items. A hanging shelf system is ideal if you don't want to or can't install a vertical shelf system. Hang the clothes that fit the baby now, and store clothes she hasn't grown into in the drawers, bins or baskets on the floor of the closet. Her shoes, extra blankets and bulky sweaters can be stored on the shelves. Use the closet shelf to store items you won't need anytime soon, such as out-of-season clothes, outgrown clothes, heavy blankets or bulky items she won't need for quite awhile.
Hidden Storage
Typically, a lot of areas in a room are unseen and provide ample storage area but are seldom used. Use baskets, bins, containers or totes to organize clutter, or store his extra blankets or toys under the crib. Use a crib skirt if you want the items to remain hidden. Window seats, ottomans and benches can contain hidden storage and provide a place for you and your baby to sit. Place seldom-used items inside if it's not convenient to get into, or use the space to put away frequently used items if it is convenient.
Shelves
Hang shelves, or use a tall bookcase to store extra items. Shelves hung above the changing table, crib or other areas in the nursery can hold baskets that complement the nursery decor and hide items you frequently use in that part of the room. Wipes, diaper cream and extra pacifiers can be stored above the changing area, for example. Alternatively, use a tall bookshelf that she can use throughout her childhood and teen years as long as it is secured to the wall and won't topple if she tries to climb it. Organize her toys and books on the lower shelves, and use the higher shelves to display decorative accessories, keepsakes and hold containers for storage. Hats, mittens, cloths, blankets and a first aid kit can all be within an arm's reach without taking up any floorspace. Display her stuffed animals on higher shelves, or hang a toy hammock or large fishnet in one corner of the room.
Dresser or Changing Table
Add drawer organizers or small containers to his dresser drawers or changing table to hold items you frequently need during diaper changes. Extra onesies, T-shirts, socks and all your diaper changing supplies should be close at hand. Store a laundry hamper or basket nearby, as well as a disposal system for dirty diapers to ensure you can complete his diaper changes without having to step away from him.
