Organize Shelves & Closets In The House

Throw out items you do not use to save space in your closet.

Shelves and closets in the home are the two primary methods of storing items such as movies, house decorations, personal items and clothing and shoes. Because many of the personal belongings require storage on shelves or closets, these places can often become cluttered and disorganized. When you are organizing your closets and shelves in the home, make sure that you identify the items you frequently use and those you rarely use. This ability can help you get through the organization of your closets and shelves much more efficiently. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Organizing Closets

1. Hang button-down shirts, pants and jackets on hangers. Hang them on the hanger rod in the closet in categories. For example, place all of the pants next to each other, all of the short-sleeve shirts next to each other and all long-sleeve shirts next to each other.

2. Fold the casual clothing, such as track pants, hooded sweatshirts and pajamas and place them in piles on the closet shelves.

3. Place shoes at the bottom of the closet, in pairs. The shoes should not be piled on top of each other so you are constantly looking for the second shoe when you need a pair.

4. If you do not have a drawer unit to keep them separate, organize your socks and undergarments in your closet If you need to store these items in your closet, consider investing in some organizational baskets so you can keep all of your socks in one basket and undergarments in another.

Organizing Shelves

5. Remove all of the items from the shelves, including books and decorative figurines. If you have many smaller things you do not want on the shelf but want to keep, consider storing them away in smaller storage boxes. There are many wooden storage boxes or modern paper boxes that can be placed right on the shelf for a tidier look.

6. Pick the decorative items you want on the shelf and keep them aside. You only want to pick a few items, as too many items will make the shelves look cluttered and disorganized. Place these items on the shelves and pack all others away in one of the storage boxes. You can always switch the decorations during the year to mix up the shelves' appearances.

7. Put books in an order of choice on your shelves. For a cleaner look, consider organizing them by size, so the tallest book starts at the end of the shelf and the books get smaller and smaller towards the middle of the shelf. You can also organize the books by author, title or spine color. Whatever method you choose, keep it consistent with other bookshelves in your home.
