There are several inexpensive ways to keep your dorm room organized and comfortable.
Your dorm room is your home away from home, but making it your own can be tricky if you have limited space. Once you start packing, you may realize just how much stuff you have and feel you can't live without. You can minimize your list, or you can get creative with an organized approach and take all the items you want while still having a spacious dorm room. Here are a few cheap dorm room organization ideas to help you do just that.
Plastic Crates
Stack plastic crates in a corner of your dorm room. Plastic crates come in various colors, so not only can you utilize them for storage, you can match them with the decor of your dorm room. Just about anything can be organized using plastic crates, including books, office supplies, clothing, food, and even those odds and ends you just can't find a place for.
Bed Risers
Bed risers are plastic cubes that fit under each leg of a bed to raise it up, creating storage space underneath. Most bed risers lift the bed six inches, and this much space enables you to store larger items under the bed. You can even use cement blocks as bed risers. Stack the cement blocks as high as you want your bed, then store whatever you need under there.
Storage Tubs
Storage tubs are versatile; they can fit in a corner of your dorm room, under your bed or even in your closet. They can be used to store winter clothing, textbooks, class supplies, even nonperishable food items.
Closet Rod Doublers
A closet rod doubler hooks over the top closet rod, giving a second hanging bar below. This gives you more space for hanging your clothes.
Trunks
A trunk may be a bit bulky, but if you have one that's about the same length as the foot end of your bed, you can put it there. No matter where you put the trunk, it will serve its purpose. Use it to store blankets, towels, out-of-season clothes and even private items you don't want out in the open. A sturdy trunk can also provide a place to sit, so you'll have more storage space and an extra piece of furniture.
