Cheap & Simple Ideas For Kids' Rooms

Kids room designs are fun and easy to do and can be done without spending a lot of money.

There are many different ways to upgrade your child's room and stay within a tight budget. Make sure to involve your children when you plan the makeover; get their opinion before you make any decisions. With your guidance, your child can choose the color patterns or theme. They can also help you cut through the clutter and redesign the set-up of the room.

Paint

Painting is an inexpensive way to add character to your child's room. There are many possibilities when it comes to a new paint job. Begin by picking a color scheme or a theme for the room. You could incorporate a stamp design with foam stamps or stencil around the doors and windows, or add a colorful border. Fantasy murals can give a child's room the ultimate transformation. There are stencils and patters that you can buy in home design stores or from online retailers.

Fabrics

Forget paying hundreds of dollars for new bedding and curtains for your child's room. You can purchase flat sheets at a discount store. Or, if you have a large usable piece of flat fabric lying around the house, turn it into a whole new set of bedding and curtains for your child's room with a bit of cutting and sewing. Leave appropriate openings for the duvet and pillow shams. Use Velcro, ribbon strings or buttons at the opening of the duvet and pillow shams to tie ends together once the comforter and pillows are inside. Use any leftover materials to make drawstring bags for storage or laundry hampers.

Storage

A room that is organized has a better chance of staying organized consistently, but storage boxes can quickly add up in cost. There are a few ways to help you keep both your budget and the clutter under control. First, go through all the clutter and get rid of anything that has not been played with or used for at least six months. Store the rest of the stuff in an organized fashion. Covered boxes or drawstring bags can be easily made at home. Old suitcases make for great storage space as well. Metal or white-strip utility shelving is inexpensive and perfect for reorganizing any toys or books. You can purchase utility shelving at your local home improvement store.
