Standard Laundry Room Dimensions

Disorganized laundry room

There is no standard or typical size for a laundry room. Often they are very small. Sometimes the size of a closet. This is usually to make use of otherwise unusable space. You should design your laundry room to suit your needs and available space. Does this Spark an idea?

Washer and Dryer Dimensions

There is no exact standard size for washers and dryers, especially with some of the new energy saving front loaders on the market. Leave a space 30 inches deep by 60 inches long and you will be able to accommodate just about any residential washer and dryer sitting side by side.

Shelving

You should consider where you will store your laundry supplies such as detergent, fabric softener, bleach, and the like. Shelving on the wall above your washer and dryer is an excellent use of space.

Folding and Sorting Tables

This is where you will need to decide whether you have a room or just a closet for laundry. If you allow enough space for a table you will need a room that is at least 8 feet by 5 feet. Think about where doors will open on the room and the appliances when placing a table in your design.

Upgraded Laundry Room Options

Some laundry room designs include more space to make the room more comfortable. Think about making the space big enough for a chair, and a small television. Perhaps a built-in closet rod for hanging clothes immediately after ironing.
