Hang Pegboard

Not just for the garage, pegboards can be used in the kitchen, bathroom, closets and any room in which you need an easy storage solution. Hang one today in a convenient spot to get frequently used items within easy reach. Just follow these steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the area of wall where you want to hang the pegboard. Make sure that the area is large enough to have a stud under each side to anchor the pegboard to the wall. Use a pencil to mark the location of the studs at the top and bottom of the area where you plan on hanging your pegboard.

2. Go to the nearest home improvement store to buy the correct size pegboard. You will also need 1-by-2-inch boards cut into four pieces. Two pieces should be the horizontal length of your pegboard and the other two the vertical length minus 4 inches.

3. Hold one of the longer 1-by-2-inch boards against the wall where the bottom edge of the pegboard will be. Use a level to get it straight and then mark your board on each end where the stud will be.

4. Pre-drill holes into the 1-by-2-inch board where you placed the marks. Hold the board against the wall using your level to ensure the board is straight, and secure it to the studs using wood screws.

5. Measure from the bottom edge of the 1-by-2-inch board already secured to the wall to where the top edge will be located, and mark the wall with a pencil. Place the other longer board against the wall at your marking, and mark the stud location on each end of the board. Remember to use a level for accurate placement.

6. Pre-drill holes into the 1-by-2-inch board where you placed the marks. Hold the board against the wall using your level to ensure the board is straight, and secure it into the studs with wood screws.

7. Pre-drill holes into the shorter pieces of 1-by-2-inch board, one on each end. Secure the two boards to the wall along the studs forming a rectangle.

8. Attach the pegboard to the rectangle frame by drilling wood screws into the peg holes at each corner. Add screws around the edge, spacing out every few inches to secure it.
