Arrange A Laundry Closest

A stacking washer and dryer maximizes space in the laundry closet.

The limited space available in a laundry closet means your organization, storage and layout is key in maximizing the area. A well-organized laundry closet allows you to efficiently wash your laundry. The size of the closet helps you plan the layout and possible organization methods for things like your detergent and dryer sheets. Other considerations include the amount of light in the closet and the available space for folding the laundry once the clothes are clean. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the laundry closet so you are able to allocate space to the components.

2. Stack your washer and dryer at one side of the closet if they are stackable. Consider purchasing a stacking washer and dryer if it is in the budget or if you need to buy a washer and dryer anyway.

3. Hang a closet rod near the top of the closet in the remaining half next to the stacked washer and dryer. Use the rod to hang clothes that will go in the closet.

4. Install a shelf above the curtain rod. Use this shelf as a storage area for extra laundry essentials.

5. Install a section of stock counter top around waist level beneath the curtain rod. Use sturdy brackets to hold the counter top in place. Use this surface to fold the laundry when it is dry.

6. Build shelves or add cabinetry below the counter top to hold laundry essentials. Make the shelves far enough apart to hold small laundry baskets for each family member so you are able to keep clothes separated.
