Open Kitchen Cabinet Ideas

Put that fine china on display!

Open kitchen cabinets are not seen often and offer a fresh approach to kitchen decor. Depending on the style of your kitchen, you can give your open cabinets a country feel or go completely modern. Before you get rid of those cabinet doors, make sure that open cabinets will be functional based on your lifestyle. Consider how often you open your kitchen cabinets and whether dishes are put away neatly. Does this Spark an idea?

Modern Kitchens

Paint the inside of your cabinets a different color from the outside for a fun and contrasting look. Go with a neutral for a more sophisticated look or choose a bright color of your choice for a fun and casual look. Use spacers every few inches and stand plates up on their side instead of stacking them. This gives a different look and changes the way you put your dishes away!

Classic Kitchens

If you have a set of china that you take out, polish and only use on special occasions, think about putting it on display. Keep your favorite china stacked or standing up on its side (spaced out by wood slats). Make sure to keep the "special occasion" dishes away from the "daily use" dishes so no one takes them out by accident. Open cabinets can work with a variety of kitchen styles and offer you a way to display your dishes of choice. This can work in a country kitchen, a cafe style kitchen or any decor where you want to show off your good taste in dishes!

Small Kitchens

Maximize your space. In a small kitchen, ditching the cabinet doors will give the appearance of more room. Go with a light and subdued shade; white is a good choice for a small room. Don't overstock dishes or kitchen supplies. Think about how many plates you need. It may be 12, it may be four. If you have extra table settings, donate them to charity or have a yard sale!
