When you own tools, a large part of keeping those tools operable and efficient is storing them properly. There are specific ways to store your tools so they don't rust or suffer the wear and tear of being out and exposed to the elements or whatever may be going on in your shop or garage. Storing your tools also keeps them all in one place so you always know where they are. Does this Spark an idea?
Particle Board Hangers
Particle board can be bought and hung on the wall of your shop or garage and hooks or pegs can be inserted into it, giving you easy access to your tools. A good idea is to hang these tools, properly spaced from each other, and then trace around them with a sharpie or black marker so you know exactly where to put your tools after you have used them. You will also know when a tool is missing.
Drawers to Tool Box
If you have an old, unused nightstand with drawers, you can easily convert it into a series of drawers to store your tools. Most drawers are divided by large and small, from top to bottom. You can store smaller tools like screwdrivers and wrenches in the top drawers, while bigger tools can be stored in the bigger drawers near the floor. It's important not to stack too many tools on top of each other, however, as they can get lost in the pile or damaged from the weight of other tools. If the drawers become full, another means of storage may be necessary.
Closet Tool Storage
You can build a large closet as a storage area for your tools. The best things about doing this is that the closet can be locked, not only keeping all your tools in one place, but securing them when you are not using them. You can hang tools on hooks on the wall of the closet. Heavier pieces of equipment or tools that are difficult to put in a storage container can be stored on the floor. A series of drawers can even be built or put into the closet itself where smaller tools can be stored. This is an all-in-one solution for tool storage.
