Donate Clothing In California

Donating clothing can make you feel good for helping and cleaning your closet.

Donating clothing is a great way to clean out your closet as well as help those who are less fortunate than yourself. You can also log a tax deduction as long as you get a receipt for your donation. In California, there are a number of different places to donate your clothing.

Instructions

Donate Clothing in Person

1. Clean the clothing you intend to donate. Be sure to weed out all undergarments, as donation centers will not accept these items.

2. Place the clothing in a canvas bag or plastic garbage bag.

3. Locate your local donation centers. You can do this online or with a phone book. In California, you have access to many different places such as Goodwill centers, United Cancer, Out of the Closet and ePath.

4. Take the clothing to the center. Some let you just drop off the donation in a container, while other facilities require you to come during business hours.

Have the Clothing Picked Up

5. Clean the clothing and bag it up.

6. Call to set an appointment with places such as Salvation Army, Vietnam Veterans of America, or the Military Order of the Purple Heart. These organizations will come to your door to pick up the items.

7. Leave the bags out where the collectors can get them on the designated day and time. You do not have to be home during the pick-up.
