Maid Shelving
ClosetMaid is an American company that specializes in making products that help you organize and make better use of your home storage space. ClosetMaid products, including shelving, are available at many home improvement stores. ClosetMaid shelving is made from wire mesh, is lightweight, and fairly simple to install with regular household tools. Once installed, ClosetMaid shelving performs double-duty by allowing you can stack items on the upper shelf, as well as place clothing hangers on the bottom rail. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Measure the width of the closet or area where the shelving is to be installed with a measuring tape. Cut the ClosetMaid shelf in between the wires with a hack saw to this measurement, minus approximately ½-inch. Push the rubber end caps onto the large wires at both ends of the shelf until fully seated.
2. Mark a horizontal line on the wall where the shelf will be installed using a level and a pencil. Measure in 2 inches from each end of the line and mark with a pencil the locations for the wall clips that support the shelf. Mark locations for the remaining wall clips at equal intervals between the two original marks. Do not mount clips more than 11 inches apart.
3. Drill ¼-inch holes at the marks made in the above step with a ¼-inch drill bit and power drill. Insert the wall clips into each of the drilled holes until they are flush against the wall surface. Push the metal retaining pins into the wall clip mounting holes using the end of a hammer handle until fully seated.
4. Push the bottom rear rail of the shelf into the wall clips until they snap in place. Let the shelf hang down. Place the shelf support brackets at each end of the shelf. Place additional brackets at equal intervals not less than 36 inches apart.
5. Raise the shelf up until it is level. Drill ¼-inch holes into the wall using the mounting holes in the bottom of the shelf support brackets as a guide. Push support bracket anchors into the drilled holes. Place the mounting hole in the bracket over the anchors and press retaining pins through the bracket and into the anchors with a end of a hammer handle.
