Diy Install Closet Sliding Doors

Add sliding doors to your closet in a few steps.

You can easily update the look of your bedroom by simply changing the door to your closet. Some people may not consider a closet door as a decorative piece in a room. However, nice sliding closet doors can add a little more character to a boring or drab room than a plain wooden door. Sliding closet doors can come in many different styles, including mirrored, and can be installed pretty quickly with a few tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the width and height of the doorway to your closet. These measurements are useful when you shop around for the perfect sliding doors. Write down the measurements and take them with you. The standard height for sliding doors is 80 inches.

2. Compare different styles of sliding doors. Choose doors that suit your decorative taste and fit your closet doorway.

3. Remove the old closet door. Unscrew the door from the hinges and remove the hinges and door from the wall. If you already have sliding closet doors and are replacing them, lift the old doors off the tracks to remove them. Put on your safety glasses and remove the tracks and screws from above your head and the base of the floor with your electric drill and screwdriver bit.

4. Install the new tracks. Attach the upper track above your head on the frame of the door with screws and the drill. If the track is too long for the door frame, use your hacksaw to cut it down to the correct length. Install the door rollers onto the top of each door with screws. They fit inside the track and allow you to adjust them so the doors hang flush together.

5. Attach the bottom track on the floor. Find the position for the bottom track by putting it on the floor and hanging the sliding doors in place. Look at the doors to find the center for the bottom track. Mark the center spot with a pencil and remove the doors. Attach the track to the floor with screws and your drill.

6. Install the sliding doors. Hang the back sliding door, then the front sliding door to the upper track, and then place the rollers on the lower track.

7. Test the doors by sliding them back and forth to make sure they move easily.
