DirecTV satellite receivers unscramble and process television signals. If the receiver ever locks up, causing an image to freeze on your TV screen, or perhaps displaying no image at all, you may need to reset the component. Depending on the DirecTV model you own, there are two ways to reset the receiver.
Instructions
1. Pull forward on the rectangular door on the front of the DirecTV receiver to expose the access card. Next to the card on some DirecTV receivers is a button labeled Reset. Press this button to reset the receiver. If your model does not have a reset button, continue to Step 2.
2. Unplug the receiver's electrical cord while the unit is turned on and wait 15 seconds. This causes a hard reset of the receiver to factory settings.
3. Plug in the power cord and turn on the receiver.
