In addition to granite speciality cleaners, there are several household products that are used to clean up specific problems on granite countertops, according to Mrs. Clean USA. Mix together 1 tbsp. of dish soap with 2 tbsp. of all purpose flour. Form a paste, and use it on food stains. For oil and grease stains, substitute peroxide for dish soap. Allow the paste to sit for six to eight hours, and wipe off with a clean rag.
Maintenance and Cleaning Tips
When cleaning up granite countertops, there are several tips to keep them looking fresh. Wipe up spills and stains right away to prevent them from damaging the granite or the sealant. Microfiber rags are ideal because they are soft and leave behind little lint. When cleaning, pay attention to how water beads on the surface of the counter. If water fails to bead, reseal the counters, warns Mrs. Clean USA.
