Remove Cleaner Fluid From Wii

Disassemble your Wii to remove cleaner fluid.

Whenever your Wii or any other sensitive piece of electronic equipment gets wet, it is best to immediately stop using the device, unplug it from the power outlet and other devices and work quickly to remove the fluid. Fluids easily damage electronics, and some attempts to clean them up can cause more harm than good. If you have accidentally spilled cleaner fluid from a lens cleaning kit or other source into your Wii, the best course of action is to carefully disassemble your Wii and allow it to thoroughly dry.

Instructions

1. Remove the GameCube port cover by opening it and lifting it off. The port cover is the rectangular piece covering the GameCube controller ports.

2. Remove the GameCube port plate by unscrewing the three Phillips-head screws and lifting the plate out.

3. Remove the two Philips-head and two tri-wing screws revealed by removing the GameCube port plate.

4. Pull off the two rear feet and two white square stickers on the bottom of the Wii. Remove the four tri-wing screws revealed.

5. Remove the Phillips-head screw on the side of the unit with the serial sticker and lift out the battery cover and battery. On the same side, remove the rubber feet and the three white square stickers. Remove the three Phillips-head and two tri-wing screws revealed.

6. Pull off the faceplate, being careful to disconnect the two wiring harnesses attached behind it. Gently squeeze each wiring harness to release the connection.

7. Lift the upper part of the case away. The interior of the Wii is now exposed to the air and any trapped cleaner fluid will start evaporating. Allow the Wii to dry for 24-48 hours in a clean setting with good air circulation. Wiping is not recommended as it can damage the device.

8. Reassemble the Wii by reversing steps 1 to 7.

Tips Warnings

Don't attempt to wipe away cleaning fluid trapped inside your Wii. It is easy to damage sensitive parts with force and pressure.

Disassemble your Wii on a clean, dry, flat surface.

Periodically discharge any static electricity built up on your body by touching a piece of metal away from your Wii.
