Replace the faucet cartridge to restore the flow.
Moen is a well-known and widely used brand of kitchen and bathroom faucets, with a well-earned reputation for quality and longevity. With a typical Moen faucet, you can expect many years of dependable and maintenance-free service. Should the faucet become difficult to turn off completely, refuse to maintain a consistent water temperature or simply freeze to where it can’t be turned on, the answer in most cases is a simple replacement of the faucet cartridge to have your Moen fixture functioning like new.
Instructions
1. Locate the water valves under the sink and shut off the water supply to the faucet. These two water valves, called sink stops, are shut off by turning the each knob clockwise until it is tight.
2. Remove the faucet handle insert with the tip of a standard screwdriver. Next, remove the handle screw by turning the Phillips screw counterclockwise until it is free. Lift the handle straight up.
3. Loosen and remove the plastic cartridge nut and set it aside.
4. Pull the old faucet cartridge straight up to remove it from the faucet housing.
5. Insert the replacement cartridge into the faucet housing and secure it in place with the plastic cartridge nut removed in Step 3, threading the nut clockwise onto the faucet housing.
6. Reinstall the faucet handle onto the cartridge post. Secure it in place with the handle screw, then snap the handle insert cap into place over the screw hole.
7. Turn the stop valves under the sink back on by turning the valve’s knob counterclockwise to restore the water supply to the faucet.
Tips Warnings
The procedure described to change the faucet cartridge is the same for single- or double-handled faucet models.
