A homemade BB gun can be as effective a weapon for target practice as one purchased from a store. You can make your own homemade BB gun from a mechanical pencil along with a few other supplies commonly found around the house. It takes about an hour to create you mechanical pencil BB gun. Children should seek adult supervision in making and using the mechanical pencil BB gun. Protective eye gear to avoid injury from being hit by a BB is also suggested.
Instructions
1. Pull the cap off the plastic pen. Hold the plastic pen at the front and back with your hands. Pull the front shell off the back shell with your hands.
2. Remove the ink cartridge from inside of the back shell.
3. Clamp the jaws of the pliers around the cap at the end of the back shell. Pull the cap off with the pliers.
4. Pull the tube out of the back end of the plastic pen with your fingers. Dispose of the rest of the plastic pen in the trash.
5. Remove the cap from the mechanical pencil with your fingers. Remove the eraser from the back end of of the mechanical pencil with the pliers.
6. Unscrew the barrel from the front end with your fingers. Pull the lead out of the mechanical pencil with your fingers.
7. Measure an inch from the front end of the mechanical pencil. Cut the end of the mechanical pencil at the 1-inch mark with the scissors. Pull the lead tube out of the back end of the mechanical pencil with your fingers.
8. Insert the tube from the plastic pen into the back of the mechanical pencil. Push the tube into the back of the mechanical pencil until an inch remains outside of the back.
9. Apply bonding glue to the end of the tube. Place the end of two rubber bands against the end of the tube. Let the bonding glue set for an hour.
10. Apply bonding glue to the top of the mechanical pencil near the front where the barrel was removed.
11. Stretch the two rubber bands over to the front of the mechanical pencil. Hold the ends of the two rubber bands against the bonding glue for a minute. Release the rubber bands. Let the bonding glue set for an hour.
12. Go into your backyard. Hold the front end of the mechanical pencil that is now a BB gun up. Insert a BB into the front end of the mechanical pencil.
13. Hold the mechanical pencil BB gun in your left hand. Aim the front end of your mechanical pencil BB gun at a tree or rock.
14. Grab hold of the end of the tube that is sticking out of the back end of the mechanical pencil with the thumb and index finger of your right hand.
15. Pull the tube out of the back end of the mechanical pencil BB gun as far as it will go.
16. Release the tube to fire the BB at the tree or rock. Reload additional BBs at will to continue firing.
Tips Warnings
You can shoot foam pellets instead of BBs for added safety.
Never aim any kind of homemade weapon that shoots a projectile at a person or pet.
