Glue A Metal Backsplash To The Kitchen Wall

Metals such as tin and aluminum are attractive alternatives for a kitchen counter backsplash. The metal backsplash can cover a whole wall or just the upper edges of the counter. There are two ways of installing a metal backsplash: using screws to secure it, or gluing it to the kitchen wall. The process is the same whether you're working with tin or aluminum.

Instructions

1. Clean the wall where you will attach the metal backsplash, using a damp rag. This helps ensures proper adhesion.

2. Place a towel or sheet on the counter to protect the backsplash, then lay it face down on the cloth.

3. Apply a 1/2-inch bead of construction adhesive around the perimeter of the metal backsplash with a caulk gun. Start the bead 2 inches away from the edges. Add another bead in the center of the backsplash.

4. Lift the backsplash by its edges and set it against the wall above the counter. Press it firmly against the wall to ensure good adhesion.

5. Stretch painter's tape across the length of the backsplash, overlapping it 6 inches on each side. The painter's tape help keep the backsplash in place while the adhesive cures. Take the tape off after 24 hours.

Tips Warnings

If covering an entire wall with several pieces of backsplash, screws are necessary when joining edges. Follow the manufacturer's directions for attaching screws to the backsplash.
