Allowing in only as much light as you want into your home, Venetian blinds serve two purposes by way of added aesthetics and functionality. Venetian blinds are commonly comprised of metal. Plastic or wood. Over time these window coverings can accumulate dust and begin to appear dirty as well as unhealthy by storing up dust that becomes airborne every time you open or close them. Cleaning Venetian blinds requires little more than the right materials and knowing approach the task at hand.
Instructions
1. Open the blinds so that you can reach and easily clean both sides of the slats.
2. Cover your hand with a soft cotton sock.
3. Wipe each slat with the sock to collect dust and dirt. Be sure to wipe down both sides of the slats.
4. Wipe away stubborn dirt or other stains with a clean damp sponge or cloth.
5. Spray wood polish onto a soft clean cloth.
6. Sandwich each slat in between the cloth to wipe down both sides simultaneously.
Cleaning Metal or Plastic Venetian Blinds
7. Dust the blinds with a soft clean cloth to remove excess dirt and dust.
8. Run warm water into the bathtub and add enough of a mild dish soap to make the water sudsy.
9. Remove the blinds from the window and place them into the bathtub.
10. Allow the blinds to soak for 30 minutes to an hour before scrubbing them clean with a clean cloth or sponge.
11. Drain the water from the bathtub leaving the blinds in place and turn on the shower to rinse them.
12. Remove the blinds from the tub and hang them outside to dry. You can drape them over a fence or lie them on a clean dry towel to dry in the sunshine.
Tips Warnings
Dust Venetian blinds at least weekly to prevent large accumulations of dirt and dust.
Harsh chemicals and abrasives may damage your blinds and should be avoided.
