Re-installing a Moen kitchen faucet requires a few simple steps. The following steps are general faucet installation instructions. There are various types of Moen faucets and some require specialized steps that need to be taken. You should always thoroughly read the instructions that came with your product to ensure proper installation of your Moen kitchen faucet.
Instructions
1. Holding your Moen faucet firmly in your hand, remove all existing putty, silicone, caulk and dirt until the surface is clean. This will ensure your Moen faucet seats properly on the sink's surface. If installing on a old sink it is important to remove any old putty, caulk or silicone as well as any dirt to ensure a tight seal around the base of the faucet. Some suggestions for cleaning, besides the obvious soap and water, are paint thinner, mineral spirits, acetone or alcohol.
2. Read the instructions that came with the faucet. Some faucets require a bead of plumber's putty placed between the sink and the faucet. A bead being described as a thin rope or string. Others come with a plastic gasket that is used instead of plumber's putty. If plumber's putty is used, take some in your hand and roll into a half inch bead long enough to go around the base of the faucet. If the faucet came with a plastic gasket, place it on the bottom of the faucet.
3. Place the faucet in the proper position on the sink. The faucet will have two threaded water connections that the water supply lines connect to. Make sure the faucet is positioned so that it is straight in appearance.
4. Position yourself inside the cabinet under the sink. You will need to thread the two nuts that came with the faucet onto the threaded water supply connections. Tighten them by hand until snug. If plumber's putty was used you will need to wipe off any excess around the base of the faucet.
5. Place one of the supply lines into a bucket or jug and slowly turn on the supply valve that it is connected to. Allow the water to flow for a few seconds. This will clear the line of any debris that could damage your new faucet. Repeat this step for the remaining supply line. Take the supply line and thread it onto the threaded water supply connections on the bottom of the faucet until they are snug. Using the basin wrench tighten the supply lines to the faucet connections until tight. Place newspaper under the supply line connections to help identity the location of any leaks.
