Build A Shoe Wardrobe

Build a Shoe Wardrobe

The modern woman’s obsession with shoes has been well-documented in fashion magazines. But how many shoes does a woman really need in her shoe wardrobe? A woman requires only five categories of footwear to fill her closet with shoes. Follow these simple steps to build a shoe wardrobe without sacrificing quality, breaking any fashion rules or compromising your personal style.

Instructions

1. Buy from five shoe categories only: boots, athletic, special occasion, work and casual. Make a commitment to buy only shoes that fit into your current lifestyle and these five categories.

2. Assess your current shoe wardrobe before shopping. Pull every shoe out of your closet to determine its current value. Separate each shoe into the shoe categories mentioned in Step 1. Examine the heels and toes of the shoes to see if they need to be replaced or repaired. Decide which shoe categories require additions or deletions of footwear before you hit the malls for a shoe-shopping spree.

3. Determine cost per wearing to determine a shoe's long-term wardrobe value. Take the retail price of the shoes and divide it by the number of times you think you’ll wear them. For example, if a pair of shoes costs $100 and you will wear them once a week for 52 weeks, the cost per wearing is 100 divided by 52. Your cost is $1.92 per wearing.

4. Think about comfort, then style, before you buy. Shoes are primarily an impulse purchase. A woman sees a pair of shoes she loves and decides to buy them instantly. To prevent buyer’s remorse, think about buying shoes that look good and feel good.

5. Purchase supplies to maintain your shoe wardrobe. Maintain your shoes to extend the life of each pair. Create a shoe repair kit. Buy shoe polish, a suede brush and rain-repellent spray. These items are necessary to not only build a shoe wardrobe but also keep your shoes immaculate after each wearing.
