Build A Standalone Room Divider

A stand-alone room divider is a simple way to create a private area.

A stand-alone room divider separates a room with wood panels connected by hinges and collapses like an accordion. It does not have one permanent position, but rather can be moved to any place that you choose. Make a simple wooden divider in one day to make better use of a large room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Make a mark on the medium density fiberboard at 2 and 4 feet. Use a straight edge to extend the marks the width of the board.

2. Cut the board along the lines with a circular saw to make three sections. Sand the edges of the pieces with a hand sander.

3. Place two pieces flat on the work surface spaced 1/8 of an inch apart. Open the piano hinge and place over the 1/8-inch gap. Center the hinge to provide an equal distance on the top and bottom of the hinge.

4. Hold the hinge in place as you install it with the included screws.

5. Flip the entire piece over and repeat with the last section.

6. Sand the entire surface of the panels and paint or stain as desired.
