Dress Up Closet Doors

Change plain closet doors into an interior design statement.

Dress up closet doors to reflect the rest of the interior design style of the space. No matter what material they are made of, you can decorate closet doors to fit into traditional or contemporary rooms easily. All it takes is a little time and effort to change them from eyesores into assets, even if you do not want to to do anything permanently to the doors' design. Simply use one of the many removable decorative options available to dress up closets temporarily, such as for holidays or to celebrate changing seasons. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint solid wood or metal doors with paint meant for the material from which they are made. Paint a solid color as a base coat and use stencils to add designs or scenery on top.

2. Paint slatted metal or wood closet doors in a solid base color, or alternate colors in the slats. Use stencils to create a design -- such as trailing ivy or scrolls -- down the slats.

3. Paint designs just along the edges or in the corners of mirrored decorative closet doors, using glass paint. Another option would be to use a glass frosting or etching kit.

4. Change out plain knobs with decorative ones to instantly dress up closet doors. Hang decorative hooks on the front to display colorful robes or other fashion accessories.

5. Put up a tension rod in front of the closet to hang curtains on if you do not want to paint the doors. Another option is to apply removable decals that can be easily replaced with different images as your interior design style changes.
