Ultimate Closet Solutions

Maintaining an organized closet may mean including functional items in the space.

Your closet is used to store most of your household items, so keeping it organized is a priority. Incorporating efficient solutions into your closet can help you make the most of the space and can even make the inside of your closet more attractive. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

For a small closet, adding tiny containers for shelf storage or hooks on the back of the closet door will allow you to use the space efficiently for housing small decor items or coats and jackets. Spacious closets can also benefit from similar additions, such as a shoe rack that hooks onto the closet door, which frees up floor space.

Function

One of the most efficient closet solutions is assigning a function to each of the closets in your home. For instance, the garage closet should only be used for tools -- shelves made of metal or sturdy wood will ensure that your tools are stored properly. The closet in the hallway closest to the bathroom should be reserved for linens, towels, waschloths and additional bathroom decor, such bath mats or toilet covers.

Considerations

Decorating your closet will prompt you to keep it looking its best. Painting the inside of the closet a bright color will make the space inviting -- adding baskets or bins to the closet that match the paint color gives the closet a coordinated look. Adding a decorative mirror to the back of the closet door will also give you a clear view of how the closet looks on the inside and may make it look bigger, as well.
