Remove A Rose Schlage Closet Door Handle

Remove a Rose Schlage Closet Door Handle

Most closet door handles use long threaded screws to secure the outer and inner knobs to the door. The screws insert through the inner doorknob assembly and into sleeves on the outer doorknob assembly. The screw heads usually are visible on the inner doorknob. Sometimes the screws are hidden behind the rose of the doorknob. Removing a rose Schlage closet door handle requires removing the inner doorknob to access the retaining screws, in most instances. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open the closet door, and look for screws on the rose cover. The rose cover is the decorative plate around the doorknob stem. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver, and pull both the outer and inner doorknobs away from the closet door.

2. Look for a small hole or slot on the neck of the inner doorknob if there are no screws on the rose. Straighten the end of a large paper clip. Insert the end of the paper clip into the hole until you feel resistance. This is the spring securing the inner door handle to the doorknob stem. Press the spring with the paper clip while pulling the doorknob away from the stem.

3. Inspect the rose for a small notch on the side. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the notch, and pry the rose away from the door. If there is no notch, look for a small set screw on the edge of the rose. Remove the set screw with an Allen wrench, and pull the rose away from the door.

4. Remove the screws holding the rose insert and the outer doorknob together with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The rose insert is the mounting plate for the rose on the door. Pull the mounting plate and the outer doorknob away from the door.

5. Turn the screws attaching the door latch assembly to the door counterclockwise with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the door latch out of the door.
