Remodel A Walk In Closet

Remodel a walk-in closet for greater organization.

A walk-in closet offers extra storage for clothing and accessories. Many walk-in closets are built with only a regular bar and shelf like a regular closet. Remodeling the walk-in closet allows you to increase the functionality and organization of the area. There are many closet options including drawers, shelves and specialty organizers for different types of apparel. Take the time to assess your needs from the walk-in closet before you begin the remodeling project. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Assess the current layout and features of the walk-in closet. Determine what features work best and which things you don't like about the closet.

2. Write a list of all the storage units you want in the closet. Common options include drawers, upper and lower clothing bars, shoe racks, tie racks and benches to sit on while getting dressed.

3. Remove everything from the closet. Wipe down all of the surfaces, particularly the shelves and walls. Measure the closet so you know exactly how much space you're working with.

4. Sketch a scale drawing of the walk-in closet. If you're planning to keep any of the current storage elements, draw them into the sketch. Sketch in the extra features from your list noting the size to make sure it will fit.

5. Paint the walls and ceiling of the walk-in closet to give it a fresh look. Choose a light color to make the closet feel larger.

6. Install the closet units, shelving and special storage components of the walk-in closet.

7. Replace the light fixture in the closet if the current one is outdated or doesn't provide enough light. For a larger walk-in closet, you may need additional light fixtures so you can easily see the clothes.

8. Move all of your clothing and accessories back into the remodeled walk-in closet space.
