Find the right closet door for your room.
Closet doors are often overlooked in the room as a decor element, but a highly contrasting door can throw off the feel and look of the space. A door that fits with the decor, is convenient to use and is made of durable material, will last for years. Finding just the right doors for your closet or dressing room involves a bit of research and measuring. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Research types of doors. Most closet doors can be categorized as "pull-type" because you have to pull on them to open. The exception would be sliding doors that slide to open. The common type of "pull" door is a bi-fold door that has vertical hinges that come forward as you pull to open the door. Visit the "Types of Closet Doors" article at Rapid True Value or the Old House Web article titled "Closet Doors." There you'll also get a list of 10 closet doors suppliers such as Simpson Door Company. Visit their websites to see available options.
Call local contractors and ask them where they buy their doors, or if they can give you the number of a wholesale manufacturer of doors. You'll save money if you are able to buy your door from a wholesale retailer.
2. Measure your door opening. Using a measuring tape, measure the height and the width of your door opening, or the door that is currently installed in the door opening. Write down the measurements.
3. Visit your local home goods store to speak directly to a sales representative who can speak with you about your door options. Tell him the size of the space you need and the type of door your looking for. He will walk you through different materials, pricing and style options.
4. Shop around. Now that you have all the information you need and an idea for style preference you can hit the web for door wholesalers and really price compare.
5. Purchase your door(s). Install them yourself or hire a carpenter to install them for you.
