Diy Sliding Closet Door

Sliding doors on closets give you the ability to install a larger closet in a smaller room simply because you do not have to devote floor space to the area taken up by a door that swings outward. A hinged door comprised of two separate panels provides you with a beautiful door and requires the least amount of work compared to other sliding doors. When you open the hinged door, the panels spread outward and collapse on each other. This requires the installation of only one track. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the height and width of the closet door opening with a tape measure. Use these measurements to choose an appropriately sized sliding door that fits inside these measurements.

2. Paint the door with semi-flat or flat latex paint or stain the door with a wood stain before you install it. It is easier to finish a door before it is installed. Make sure you place masking tape on the hinges before painting the door. This will ensure the hinges do not get clogged with dry paint.

3. Mount the rollers onto each corner of the door. In most cases, rollers for the top of the door have springs located between the roller and the mounting bracket. This allows you to install the door onto the track. The bottom rollers will not have springs. Use the hardware provided with the door to attach the rollers. In most cases, you simply need a screwdriver to attach the rollers.

4. Mount the upper track to the bottom side of the doorframe. Place the front edge of the track flush with the front edge of the doorframe. Secure the track with the supplied screws and a screwdriver.

5. Place the lower track on the floor. Line the front edge corners of the track up with the front of the door casing. You will see a small gap where the molding nails to the front of the casing. Position the front edge corners just behind that gap. Secure the track to the floor with the supplied screws.

6. Place the rollers into the upper track and press upward on the door to collapse the springs on the rollers. Position the lower rollers in the center of the track and then lower the door to decompress the springs. This will secure the door onto both tracks.
