Tips On Adding More Space To A Small Closet

Adding a few closet accents will make the space more functional.

The closets in your home should serve to store your items and make the space tidier. If you have one or a few small closets in your home, there are ways to make the most of the limited space and avoid clutter. Does this Spark an idea?

Creating Space

Adding certain types of items in a cozy closet can make it appear more spacious. For instance, if you install a couple of coat racks on the back of the closet door, you'll free up some of the space on the hanging rod. Also, installing a couple of shelves on the door or side wall of the closet for shoes will make closet floor space available.

Getting Organized

There are a few closet organizational items that will provide additional closet space, since they can be used for different functions. For instance, a shoe organizer hooked to the back of the closet door can serve its original purpose, or you can use the item to store bills and keep them organized. You can also add a small bookshelf to the closet, if space permits, to hold jewelry and accessories.

Seasonal Storage

You can also make your small closet seem bigger by storing clothes, shoes and accessories only for the current season. For instance, if winter is coming up, take your shorts and sandals and store them in a plastic bin in the garage to make more space; when the weather warms up, place your winter coats and sweaters into the bin and return your shorts and sandals to the closet.
