Remodel A Girl'S Bedroom

Include enough storage in a remodeled bedroom.

Remodeling a bedroom can lead to spending time together for a girl and her parents. When it is time to leave babyish furnishings behind and create a new look for a growing child, consider her interests and lifestyle when creating a plan. A good place to start is home decorating magazines to get ideas. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut pictures from magazines and save them in a file. Compile a list of ideas about furniture, storage, flooring, lighting, wall d cor and window treatments.

2. Draw the layout of the room to scale on graph paper, with 1 foot equal to 1 inch. Include an area for homework with a desk or another surface for a workspace, along with a comfortable chair. Fit an extra bed into the room for overnight guests, if the space is large enough. Incorporate an interest center like a reading corner with a cushy beanbag chair or a craft table for beaded jewelry, depending on her hobbies.

3. Build or buy adequate storage space. Take inventory of the closet and current furniture and add storage for clothing, schoolwork, toys, books, electronics, hobby materials and the like. Built-ins, a decorative armoire or an additional dresser are useful for storage. Include bookcases, cubbies for toys, electronics and hobby materials and shelving for photo albums, trophies and other possessions to keep the room neat.

4. Paint the room in appropriate colors and install coordinating flooring. For example, soft green walls and carpet along with bright white molding and curtains give a fresh look to a girl's bedroom at any age. This color scheme can be accented with touches of yellow or pink. Add a chair rail to separate wallpaper from paint or a darker paint hue from a lighter color. Include a border where the wall meets the ceiling to add interest.

5. Install lighting that complements the d cor of the room. Use track lighting for a more contemporary room and a center chandelier for a more traditional or romantic look.

6. Visit stores, consignment shops and flea markets to find interesting accessories and spray paint if necessary. Or make your own accessories. A shell collection and a glue gun can be used to make a collage frame for a mirror or picture.
