Closet Ideas For Kids

Use a closet organizer to create space.

Creating space in your child's room starts with designing a well-organized closet. Kids aren't known for being clean and organized when it comes to their room. However, numerous closet ideas for kids not only keep items organized but they also showcase your child's personality. You can keep with the theme of your child's room, making the closet an extension of the room, not an area that needs to be behind closed doors. Does this Spark an idea?

Organized Closet

While every closet idea should include organization, this closet focuses solely on organization. Start with adjustable rods for hanging clothes. These work well because they can be moved higher as your child grows. Add shelving, at a height your child can reach, for bulky items such as sweatshirts, sweaters and jeans. Put pegboard up on the inside of the closet wall, and add various sized hooks, making an area for belts, jump ropes, biking helmets and any item that never seems to find a permanent place. Clutter doesn't seem so bad when it all has its own spot.

Closet on a Budget

A closet organizer added to your child's closet immediately creates space. Shelving is perfect for pants, shorts and even shoes. Use plastic tubs in vibrant colors or colors that match the room's décor for storing out of season clothes. Add a hook on the back of the closet door for the next day's clothes. Your child can pick her outfit the day before and hang it on the hook. Rolling shelving, totable bins and baskets kids can reach make putting things away an enjoyable game.

Creative Closet

Give the closet a theme. First, add plenty of shelving for colorful storage boxes and woven baskets to keep clutter off the floor. Decorate the closet according to theme with plenty of cubbies and hanging space. The key is to design the closet as part of the room, not a separate area.
