Learn set up a storage water tank.
In an emergency or drought, you might need another water source separate from your main water supply. It's terrifying for most people to think about losing their supply of fresh, clean water, but it could happen in the event of a national disaster, or even a prolonged power outage. When you want to store a large amount of water for your personal use, install a water storage tank at home. Buy one of the wide variety of ready-made tanks at your local hardware store. Instructions
1. Place your water tank where the ground is as flat as possible. The tank needs to sit near your roof water drainage pipe or gutter exit. Additionally, your tank should sit on an existing patio, or you can pour a cement base.
2. Set up a base for the tank. Measure the diameter of the base of your tank. Dig a hole 2 feel deep and 5 inches wider than that diameter.
3. Mix 2 lbs. of quick-drying concrete with 1 gallon of water, using a shovel. Pour it into the hole. Wait 12 hours for the concrete to dry. Place the tank on the cement base.
4. Attach a length of PVC pipe that runs from your roof drainage pipe into the water tank so that rainwater will drain into your tank. The PVC pipe should slide right into the gutter and tank without any tools necessary. The length of the PVC pipe will vary, depending on how far your tank is from the gutter drain.
5. Unscrew the top cover of the tank and look in with a flashlight to inspect the water level periodically. If the water level is low, top off the tank with a garden hose.
6. Remove water from the tank when you need it by turning the spigot lever to the left.
