Small Bedroom Design Tips

Small bedrooms present a challenge for the interior design.

A small bedroom design is challenging, but with the right storage methods, furnishings and d cor, the room can feel warm and cozy. The selection of furniture and its placement in the room can make a difference in the way the room appears. In fact, with the right interior design, a smaller-sized bedroom can appear much larger than it actually is. Does this Spark an idea?

Furniture

Choosing furniture that is appropriately sized for the room helps to prevent the small bedroom from looking cluttered. The pieces should not overwhelm the room. This includes the bed, dresser, wardrobe and other furnishings in the room. Loft-style beds are an option for a smaller bedroom that takes advantage of the vertical space in the room and leaves floor space open to other furniture. With a loft bed, you can create a sitting area in the room or include a desk. Sleek, contemporary designs do not overwhelm the room. You can also select a bed design that does not have a headboard and footboard. Add a shelf to the wall behind the bed for additional storage.

Storage

A smaller bedroom can easily look cluttered and messy. Under-the-bed storage and closet organizers help to keep everything put away neatly in the room. This type of organization can also eliminate the need for additional pieces of furniture, such as dressers or bureaus. A well-organized closet may be able to store your entire wardrobe.

Color Choices

A contemporary design requires neutral colors for the walls and flooring. Light colors such as white, cream, pale green or sky blue work well in a contemporary bedroom. Choose lighter colors for the bedding as well. Use bolder colors in the room for accents to brighten the space, such as toss pillows or curtains.

Lighting

Overhead lighting eliminates the need for table lamps or floor lamps in the room. Look for task lighting that you can attach to the wall behind the bed for reading.
