Build A Europeanstyle Wall Corner Cabinet

European cabinets also are know as frameless cabinets because they do not have a wood face frame around the front section of the cabinet. Instead, the cabinet has a laminate banding around the front to cover up the melamine core. European cabinets are generally easy to build. The banding is stained and finished to match the cabinet doors. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Creating Parts

1. Measure the wall with a tape measure to build the cabinet to size. You'll need two sides, a top, a bottom, two backs, and as many shelves as you want. Subtract 1 1/2 inch from the top, bottom and shelves for the joint.

2. Cut the parts out of 3/4-inch-thick melamine, using a hand saw. Use caution while cutting. Make sure each part is cut accurately to avoid problems during assembly. Label each part during this process as well, using a pencil.

3. Cut the top, bottom and shelves on a diagonal with a circular saw. Measure the depth of your sides on the top and sketch a line to cut. Carefully cut the top and bottom on a diagonal. Use a board and two clamps to develop a straight edge to run your saw down for an even cut.

4. Cut each piece of banding to fit with the hand saw. The banding is pre-glued and you simply stick it on. Trim the excess banding off each piece.

5. Stain or paint the banding to your preference and allow it to dry before assembly.

Cabinet Assembly

6. Drill pilot holes in the cabinet sides to avoid damage to the sides from the grabber screws.

7. Apply a thin layer of glue to the side where the top and bottom will join. Roo glue works well with melamine joints. Attach the sides with the top and bottom. Use 1 1/2-inch grabber screws and a drill to secure the two pieces together.

8. Attach the back in the same fashion. Use Roo glue and 1 1/2-inch grabber screws to secure the cabinet back to the cabinet. Allow the cabinet to dry before moving. Failure to allow the glue to dry will weaken the cabinet joints.
