Hang Bifold Closet Doors

Bifold closet doors have a hinge in the middle of each door panel so they open like an accordion. They are great for closets because the doors don't take up a lot of space. It is also fairly easy to hang bifold closet doors after you finish the closet. It just takes a drill and power screw driver to complete the task. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Install the upper track for the bifold closet doors by holding it up to the top of the door frame. Make a mark on each one of the mounting holes with a pencil, right through the mounting hole.

2. Using a small 3/32-inch bit and a power drill, drill a small half inch hole on each of the marks. This is just a pilot hole to help you install the screws to mount the bifold door track.

3. Place the track back on the top of the door frame and line it up with the holes. Using a power drill, screw in the mounting hardware that came with the door to attach the frame.

4. Attach the bottom hinges to the sides of the door frame directly below the door track. Use a long carpenter's ruler to sight their position directly below the track. With a power screw driver, mount them to the frame so the bottom edge rests below the nap of the carpet.

5. Lift one of the bifold doors so the top hinge bolt along the outside of the door sets into the hole in the door track. Then set the inside hinge bolt into the track right near the outside hinge bolt. The door will be folded in half partially to do this.

6. Set the bottom hinge bolt into the bottom hinge piece, then test the door to ensure it opens smoothly. If not, push the bottom hinge bolt backwards or forwards to adjust the door.

7. Repeat Step 5 and 6 for the other side of the bifold door.
