1. Draw a rough sketch of the wall and the closet door opening on a piece of paper. Test out different possibilities for the closet door using the rough sketch.
Determine:
Will the entire closet door opening be covered?
Will a curtain draped with a holdback on one side satisfy the look?
Will sconces holding a rod with curtain match the decor?
Will tie backs or hold backs be used?
Will the curtain be hung in the opening?
Will the curtain be hung above the opening?
Do you want to camouflage the opening or create a focal point?
2. Measure the length and width of the closet opening. Write down the measurements. This will be the bare minimum that you need to cover the closet door opening completely.
3. Measure the length and width of the desired coverage. This will depend on whether you hang the rod inside the door jam for the closet or above the door jamb, like a window.
4. Select the appropriate curtains or material to create curtains, rods, tie backs or holdbacks you want to use for the closet door opening.
5. Follow the manufacturer's directions to install the rods, brackets, tiebacks, holdbacks or sconces you have selected.
