Remove Musty Smells From Furniture Drawers

Removing a musty smell from a drawer can be an easy task, but it may take time. It all depends on how long the smell has been there and soaked into the drawer walls. There are quick and easy ways of getting the smell out of the drawer, but many times the smell will come back. By taking a few extra steps, the smell can be removed permanently. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Empty the drawer of everything. It may take up to three days, so find a temporary place to keep your items.

2. Wet a cleaning cloth, and then place a teaspoon of Murphy oil on it. Rub it together to spread the soap around. Wipe the entire surface of the drawer and drawer walls. You don't want to soak the drawer. Just put enough to get the drawer damp.

3. Allow the drawer to dry overnight. During the drying time, the Murphy oil soap scent will soak into the wood, replacing the musty odor. If you are in a hurry and the drawer isn't made of very absorbent wood, you can proceed within three to four hours.

4. Sprinkle baking soda inside the drawer. Leave it overnight to absorb moisture and odors. After 24 hours, vacuum or dump baking soda out of the drawer.

5. Place activated charcoal into an aluminum foil pan. Place the pan inside the drawer. Leave it in the drawer for 24 hours. Remove the pan.
