Make A Wooden Storage Cabinet

You can store items you rarely use in wooden storage cabinets.

A wooden storage cabinet can be useful if you are looking for a custom made storage option that suits your storage needs and home decor. A wooden cabinet need not have a wooden appearance, as it can be painted and personalized to reflect your style and needs. Making a wooden storage cabinet provides you with sturdier support, so you can place heavier items in the cabinet for storage. Whereas a plastic storage cabinet may fall over, a wooden storage cabinet will protect the items within the unit. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay the plywood boards down on a work surface. With the pencil and measuring tape in hand, draw two side pieces for the cabinet measuring 30-by-20 inches. Draw the top, bottom and one shelving piece measuring 30-by-20 inches. Lastly, draw the back piece and front door for the cabinet making the pieces 30-by-30 inches.

2. Use the jigsaw to cut out the seven pieces for the storage cabinet. Sandpaper the freshly cut edges.

3. Place the two side pieces vertically in front of you. Place the top and bottom piece in between the side pieces in a horizontal manner. Add the single shelving piece directly in the middle, so you have a shelving unit in front of you with a single shelf. Attach the corners to one another using the 1-inch screws and the mechanical screwdriver by using two screws for each corner. Attach the shelving piece to the side pieces in the same manner as the corner connections.

4. Turn the cabinet unit so it stands upright. Line the back piece up to the back of the unit, so all of the sides are even. Use the 1-inch screws and mechanical screwdriver to attach the back piece to the perimeter of the cabinet frame.

5. Attach the two door hinges to one side of the cabinet, so the hinges do not interfere with the shelf. Attach one hinge on each side of the horizontal shelf on the same vertical side piece using the 1/4-inch screws and the screwdriver. The hinges should be installed on the inside of the side cabinet wall. The ends of both hinges should hang loosely.

6. Take the front door piece and line it up to the wooden storage cabinet. Connect the hinges to the door, so the hinges are located on the inside of the door. Use the 1/4-inch screws and the screwdriver to attach the door to the hinges. Open and close the cabinet door to ensure it is properly attached before storing items in the cabinet.
