Position A Queen Sized Bed In A Small Bedroom

Consider a platform bed with built-in storage in your small room.

Make the most of your space if you have a queen-sized bed to squeeze into a room sized for a cot. Queen beds are ideal for a guest room, offering comfort for couples and room to spread out for singles. Measure carefully and plan for the big bed to pull double duty in the small room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Do the math; a queen bed is 60-by-80 inches, taking up almost 35 square feet in your room. Measure the room, including the span of any doors in the room including all closet doors. Allow enough space to avoid banging the doors against the sides of the bed.

2. Choose a bed with a sleek profile; avoid big headboards and footboards. If storage is an issue in the room, consider a platform bed with built-in storage.

3. Decide where you can place the bed. If necessary, map out the room's dimensions on graph paper so you can get a better overall sense of the space.

4. Consider what furniture you can do without to make room for the bed. Consider moving dressers into a closet or building shelving and closet organizers to store clothing. Use the space under the bed for storage as well.

5. Position one side of the bed against a wall. Placing the bed against the wall can free up space in the rest of the room. Eliminate the need for additional seating in the room by piling pillows against the wall and creating a daybed or lounging sofa for use during the day.
