Build A Single Pantry Cabinet

Build a Single Pantry Cabinet

Pantry cabinets are necessary for the homeowner with any size family. They are versatile pieces that are used for items such as brooms, mops and groceries. Building a single pantry cabinet is the best way to start adding storage space to the kitchen. However, the versatility of the single pantry grows when joining two or more to make a large pantry. Since cabinet space in the kitchen is always in demand, it makes perfect sense to build several single pantry cabinets as opposed to one large double pantry. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the two pieces of 15-by-84-by-¾-inch plywood on a worktable. Measure from one end and make marks at 4, 15, 30, 42, 54 and 69 inches on both pieces. Put the framing square on the marks and draw lines across the 15 inch width of the plywood.

2. Mark the end of the plywood after the 69-inch line as the top of the pantry. These are the sides of the single pantry cabinet. Apply glue to the ends of two of the seven pieces of 15-by-22½-by-¾-inch plywood (shelves).

3. Set one of the shelves on the bottom side of the 4-inch line and secure it to the sides of the pantry with the 1½-inch drywall screws. Secure the other shelf at the top of the sides.

4. Apply glue to the ends of the remaining shelves and secure them to the bottom side of the remaining lines drawn in step 1. Next, apply glue to the exposed edges of the pantry. Set the 24-by-84-by-¼-inch plywood on the pantry cabinet and secure it to the cabinet with the 4-penny box nails. Turn the pantry all the way over.

5. Install the full overlay hinges to the piece of 24-by-84-by-¾-inch plywood (door) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Secure the door to the cabinet via the hinges.

6. Measure from one end of the door and make a mark in the center and 1 inch from the edge opposite the hinges. Drill a hole on that mark with the 3/16-inch drill bit. Insert the knob screw through the hole from the back of the door and secure the knob to the door.
