Whether your entryway is grand or small, medallions add visual excitement.
The entryway is where your guests get their first impression of your decorating personality and what to expect in the other rooms of your home. Design medallions for this area that reflect the ambiance that you are trying to create. These architectural additions should complement the tile and other decor elements that you plan on bringing into the space. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Flooring Medallions
1. Take the scale of the space into consideration. The more intricate the design of the medallion is, the larger area that you need for the smaller details to be seen.
2. Choose the medallion's color scheme based on the tiles surrounding it. Decide if you want it to blend into the flooring with monochromatic hues or stand out by introducing an accent color.
3. Place designs within the medallion that reflect the theme or overall look that you are going for in the space. For example, add floral touches or scrolls along the rim for a traditionally decorated area or geometric patterns for a contemporary feel.
Ceiling Medallions
4. Design the ceiling medallion in the same style as the one that is inlayed into the tile floor for a cohesive look. For example, mimic its shape and size exactly, or use a smaller-scale version with the same overall colors and patterns.
5. Create a ceiling medallion that mirrors the one on the floor for additional visual interest. For example, if your floor medallion has an outer blue ring and yellow flowers on the inside of the circle, put a medallion on the ceiling that has a yellow outer ring surrounding blue flowers.
6. Take one element out of the flooring medallion to create the ceiling one. For example, use the same overall pattern but paint it in a solid bronze color, or create a different design for the ceiling but use the same colors as you did on the floor.
