Install French Closet Doors

French doors add beauty to your home.

French doors are a beautiful accent to any home, and are especially nice in a closet. French doors typically have glass panes for most of their length, allowing you to see the contents of your closet from your room and creating the illusion of a larger space. If you had sliding or traditional closet doors in the past, French doors are a vast aesthetic improvement. Installing French doors is relatively easy with the right materials and tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the old closet doors. If they are sliding doors you may need to leave the track on the top and bottom of the closet, but be sure that your French doors are the right size to clear the tracks when you install them.

2. Remove any hardware from the original closet doors that remains on the side of the door jamb.

3. Measure the spot on the door jamb, using a measuring tape, where the top hinge needs to be installed, using the French door's attached hinge as a guide. Mark the spot where the hinge will be screwed in with a pencil. Do the same with the bottom hinge.

4. Repeat the same procedure with the right French door.

5. Attach the hinges to the door jamb at the top and bottom of both the left and right side of the doorway, using a screwdriver and the appropriate screws.

6. Slide the left French door's hinges into the hinge you mounted on the door jamb.

7. Slide the hinge pin into the hole at the top of the hinge and down. This should keep the French door connected to the door jamb. Repeat on the other side.
