Make A Folding Closet Door Look Like A Chinese Screen

Adding artwork to the folding closet doors gives it a Chinese look.

Chinese room screens add an Asian influence to your home that you can duplicate with folding closet doors. Asian homes often have decorative room screens with lettering that signifies an inspirational quote, dragons, lanterns, flowers or other scenes. These screens typically include bold red and black colors and gold-toned metal accents. Making your folding closet doors resemble this type of artwork requires only a couple of hours of your time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Apply Asian-influenced wall decals to both outer sections of the folding closet door. These wall decals are available at home decor, craft and hobby and discount stores. They have a peel-off backing that enables you to transform the door in minutes.

2. Paint a Chinese symbol, dragons, lanterns or other Asian-influenced decor on the closet doors with stencils. Tape the stencil to the door with masking tape and fill in the open sections with acrylic paint and a stencil or craft paintbrush. Remove the tape and stencil after the artwork dries.

3. Add wallpaper to the folding door to make it look like a Chinese screen. Many types of wallpaper have a peel-off backing, and others require only that you soak the wallpaper in water a couple of minutes before applying it.
