Make Racks For Neck Ties

Transform a wire coat hanger into a tie rack.

A homemade neck tie rack will keep ties clean and wrinkle-free. You can make a tie rack using an uncoated metal hanger, which will be bent into a continuous "S" shape. The ties will hang on the horizontal portions of the "S." The hanger hook will remain intact, making it easy to hang the rack in your closet. Avoid plastic-coated wire hangers for this project, as the coating makes it difficult to unwrap the end of the wire from the base of the hanger hook.

Instructions

1. Don leather work gloves to protect and cushion your hands while working with the wire.

2. Untwist the end of the coat hanger wire that is wrapped around the base of the hook.

3. Snip off the kinked end of the wire that was wrapped around the base of the coat hanger hook.

4. Wrap a small piece of electrical tape around the cut end of the wire to prevent the metal from catching on the ties or nearby clothing items.

5. Straighten the coat hanger wire by hand bending the wire, but leave the hook and the bend immediately below the hook intact.

6. Grasp the wire 2 inches below the bend that is situated right below the hook, and bend it into a half-circle curve.

7. Grasp the wire 4 inches down from the half-circle curve and insert another curve going in the opposite direction. Repeat this bending process to create a continuous zig-zag or "S" pattern. The straight portion of wire between each curve must be horizontal and approximately 4 inches wide.

8. Hang the ties over the straight horizontal sections of wire. Use the hook to hang the ties in your closet.
