Inexpensive Closet Solutions

Keeping your closet tidy makes it easier to find things.

In order to keep the rooms in your home looking orderly, chances are there are several items packed into your closet. Maintaining the efficiency of your closet and keeping the space neat can be fairly simple -- and budget-friendly. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

If you don't have much space in the closet, you may want to install a few shelves on the back of the door; plastic shelves or small wooden shelves are cheap and can be found at your local hardware or discount department store. For a larger closet, a long shelf along the back or side wall will help to free up the floor space.

Function

Affordable closet accessories that serve a specific function can be useful as well. For instance, a plastic hanger that extends downward is best for hanging clothing when you want to make the most of the hanging rod in the closet. A tie rack installed on the ceiling or a shoe rack for the back of the closet door will also help to significantly reduce clutter.

Considerations

It's a good idea to purchase a few plastic bins for the closet as well, so that you can easily separate items and keep the closet in order. For instance, a set of three plastic bins can be placed in your child's closet -- one for toys, one for shoes and one for off-season clothing.
