for Small Spaces
A small home often means small closets, and maximizing storage space in both is an ongoing challenge. However, fitting more clothes, accessories and shoes in your closet only requires a few easy-to-find products and supplies, a little planning and some simple ideas. Storage Containers
Storage containers pack a lot of clothes in a small closet. Fill your containers with items you don't need immediate access to, such as winter clothes in summer. Clearly label the containers with their contents, and line the bottom of the closet with them.
Hooks
Strong hooks can organize accessories. Mount them on the inside of your closet door or on a wall inside your closet. Hang purses, belts and scarves from the hooks.
Shelves
Shelves are another way to maximize closet space. Measure slats of wood to fit inside the closet. Place shelves above the storage bins, and arrange them for varying heights of storage space. Line up shoes or other items on the shelves.
Sturdy Hangers
Wooden or hard plastic hangers hold heavy clothing items without bending or breaking. A couple pairs of jeans hung on each hanger will fit more clothes in the closet.
Closet Cleaning
The best way to keep a small closet organized is to clean it out regularly. Clothes that still have tags on them or don't fit can be donated or sold to resale shops. When new clothes are bought, older items should be sorted through and discarded or donated if no longer needed. Damaged or too-small shoes should be thrown out to make room for new pairs.
