Design A Nursery Online

Design and decorate your nursery online.

You want the perfect room for your little one to sleep and play in. Now you can design and decorate your dream nursery without leaving home. The Internet offers many tools to help you pick colors, choose a theme and page through online furniture catalogs, then put it all together in a virtual room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide if you want your nursery to have a theme. Popular themes include nature scenes such as jungles, forests and gardens; space scenes featuring rockets and planets; and people and professions children love, such as cowboys, firemen and princesses. Look online for pictures of real-life nurseries and let them inspire you.

2. Decide if you want your nursery to be traditionally boy-themed, girl-themed or gender neutral. Your choice might depend on whether you're planning to find out, or already know, the sex of your baby. Of course, even when you know your baby's sex, you don't have to stick to traditional themes. Check websites with an offbeat feel to look for cute, nontraditional boys' and girls' nurseries.

3. Choose your color scheme according to your theme----for example, if you've chosen fire trucks, echo their red, silver and black color palette in other areas of the room. For princess-themed rooms, pink, purple and gold work well. ColourLovers.com is a site that lets you design color schemes----go there and test out a few combinations before deciding on a final palette.

4. Create a color scheme based on something that inspires you----a particular piece of art you've found online, a set of crib bedding, or any other piece of home decor that you want to put in your nursery. Try putting together a digital inspiration or mood board: find pictures online of various elements you like----for example, wall art, a rug, a paint chip or crib bedding----and paste them into a blank document using Microsoft Word, iPhoto, or any picture-editing software you have on your computer. See how they look together. Add and subtract elements until you have a combination you like.

5. Design and furnish a virtual nursery on the Huggies diaper company's website. Or use Web-based room design software, such as MyDeco.com, that lets you create a 3D room to the measurements of your nursery, then fill it with your chosen furniture and accessories. You can even add virtual paint to the walls and wood or tile to the floors, as well as rugs and carpeting.
