Wool
People have worn wool since at least 1000 B.C.E. Today, we enjoy merino wool for its softness and fine texture, which keeps garments warm and durable while remaining pliable and lightweight. Some people who itch when wearing other types of wool fibers wear merino wool sweaters and other garments because the fibers of merino wool overlap instead of coiling outward, reducing skin irritation. Since clothing moths enjoy feasting on wool, storing merino wool garments properly helps ensure their longevity. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Clean merino wool garments according to label instructions whenever they are soiled or before putting them away for long-term storage. Do not use fabric softener or starch. Do not launder or dry clean merino wool just because you wore it when it's not dirty. Over-cleaning damages the fibers.
2. Air your merino wool garment for 24 hours after cleaning or wearing and before storage.
3. Hang merino wool garments in cool, dry environments whenever possible to inhibit moth infestation and growth. When you hang garments, female moth larvae that can only crawl can't reach the garment. Cold temperatures and lack of humidity discourage moths and freezing temperatures kill them.
4. Place garments that cannot be hung in a shelf, drawer or chest. Do not overfill the area and allow each garment to have a bit of air around it.
5. Remove garments from storage to inspect the garment and vacuum and clean the area at least twice a year.
